ATCMG reveals priorities for 2011-2012 at AGM
Pictured above: Hak Huseyin, Chair of the Archway Town Centre Management Group and Cllr Catherine West, Leader of Islington Council, speaking at the AGM.
Some of our achievements over the last 12 months include:
· Introducing a business radio link scheme with the Junction Ward SNT to tackle shoplifting, anti social behaviour and improve employee’s safety.
- Prioritising the removal of old estate agent boards that have blighted the area, working with Islington Council’s Trading Standards and Planning Enforcement teams to get them removed.
· Successfully lobbying for a Saturday free parking pilot to be extended from 3 weeks to 12 months.
- Reducing begging and street homeless in Archway through joint working with the police, Islington Council and homeless outreach charities.
· Producing the second edition of the Archway Business Directory with money off vouchers and distributing to 3500 local households.
All this has been possible due to the support of the local business community, and our partners.
Some of our key priorities for 2011-2012 are to:
Ensure the effective delivery of key projects that form part of the £2 million allocated to Archway, that ATCMG members recently successfully lobbied the council for. These are:
- £400,000 to replace and improve old shopfronts in Archway
- £100,000 for initiatives to help boost local business, through the Archway Town Centre Management Group
- £100,000 for business support in Archway and other Islington town centres
- Launch a new Loyalty Card scheme in November 2011 to attract customers and help retain money in the local economy.
- Work with Islington Council to match up businesses looking for staff with local people looking for work in order to reduce unemployment in the area.
- Produce the 3rd edition of our Business Directory in September 2011 with money off vouchers, and distribute to 3,000 local households.
- Work with local arts and cultural organisations to provide a programme of events for all ages that will attract people to the area.
