Flowering telephone boxes brighten up Archway
A new display of Miniature
ivy, pansies, narcissus and polyanthus are among the blooms are now growing in
the old kiosks, which were stripped down and repainted before being installed in the town centre last year.
The
new planting is part of the Archway Town Centre Management Group and Islington
Council's ongoing commitment to the area.
Cllr
Catherine West, leader of Islington Council, said: "Archway is a fantastic
area and we want it to look its very best for spring.
"These
telephone kiosks bring a bit of extra colour and sparkle to the streets and
have helped give the area a lift."
The
telephone boxes have been really positively received by the public with
pictures and comments popping up on Twitter.
People are generally quite surprised when they encounter the old red
boxes which have been given a new lease of life.
The
telephone boxes are located in front of Archway library and next to Thomas
Brothers on Holloway Road.
